A database administrator (DBA) directs or performs all activities related to maintaining a successful database environment. So the responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining the database system.

 


So what really makes a good database manager


1) Strong Problem solving skills

 

A good DBA (Database Administrator) has the skills required to identify the cause of the problem. Evaluate it and design a solution in a timely manner with the help of his or her team.

 

2) Back up and disaster recovery

 

Because he or she must be ready to tackle even the most difficult situations by staying focused. Doing what is necessary to get database services back online quickly. Therefore preventive tasks such as the above are very much needed. So as to make up for the lack of physical hard drives, one can opt for cloud based services.

Automation of routine tasks frees up your DBA’s time, allowing the DBA to focus efforts on the important tasks that cannot be automated. Oftentimes the DBA finds him/herself spending a majority of their time putting out fires with little time to focus on more strategic initiatives. A good DBA will realize that he/she does not already know everything there is to know about database management and will always be looking for ways to build new skills and improve the functionality of your organization’s database so when new technologies are released, your DBA should immediately educate him/herself and therefore evaluate whether it would be a solution to adopt at your organization.
